Grammar

The past participle

This unit is dedicated to the experiences that have created our identity, who we are. You will find present perfect sentences, but also lots of past simple forms.

Read the following text carefully and answer the questions.

The -ed is the ending of the past simple and the past participle too. Some verbs, though, have irregular forms.

Study the list of irregular verbs, and the third column (past participle) and watch this short video. It teaches you how to use the present perfect and the past participle.

Grammar 2.

The present perfect

The present perfect is another way to express events in the past. It uses the verb have (have/has) + the past participle. 27 exercises minimum.

  • Everything you need to know about it (download).

Grammar 3
Complex sentences

We usually think of teachers as a special type of human beings that work, eat and sleep in schools. Nothing could be further from the truth. Read about their experiences and identify them.

Dave and June are friends. Dave is away on holidys and decides to call her friend. During the conversation, Dave tells her about his holidays. Listen and answer the test.

You can use "I'd love to" to express your wishes. Look at this example:

  • I've never been to Italy, but I'd love to.

  • I'd love to buy a new mobile, although I don't really need one.

Notice the words "but" and "although". They are used to indicate contrast.

Writing
True or false?

We read about your teacher's life experiences, but your teachers do not know about yours. Surprise them. Write a short text about your experiences, 5 lines minimum.

If you need any help, watch the video below.

There are two tests in this unit. One is to see if you remember your irregular verbs: base form, past, past participle and translation. The second test is the traditional vocabulary and grammar test.
